Bathroom Remodel: Glam + Retro

I have been posting on this bathroom remodel for the 2018 Fall One Room Challenge for 6 weeks and I am so glad I get to share it in my gallery now!

This small bathroom is in a 1968 Ranch style home and part of a larger remodeling project. We wanted to cultivate a look that is high-end, but not too formal. We wanted to give a nod to the time period and use the collection of mid-century modern furniture pieces, but we didn’t want the stripped down look of a modernist or minimal approach. I also wanted to give the room a classic Southern look by including elements like linen drapery and custom soft goods, chinoiserie, and gold-toned metals. All of those elements would have a backdrop of a soft coastal palette, using creamy white and gray paint for the walls and soft, muted blues and aquas.

The goal with the bathroom was to bring in a little glam. More of a Hollywood Regency look than mid-century, but in a way that would still allow the bathroom to feel like a part of the house. I used traditional bar style bathroom lighting over the white lacquer bamboo mirror. I also wanted a boldly patterned wallpaper, but I wanted the colors to coordinate with the rest of the house. Again, I didn’t want the bathroom to feel out of place. After a lengthy session in my local trade showroom, I found the perfect wall paper.
