This master bedroom project was fun and presented few challenges. The room is an open, beautiful space in a well-designed home. The clients wanted a blue color schemed with pops of golden yellow. The most challenging aspect was managing the lowness of contemporary furnishings with height of the ceilings.
The location and style of the home made it easy to design around a coastal concept. I took cues from the afternoon storms that move across the coastal region in Florida – deep, moody blues and grays contrasted with bright, golden sunlight.
Color scheme: I used navy and white as the anchoring neutrals. The custom pillows were made with a bold golden yellow velvety fabric with a vintage feel. Art: The art brought in a coastal sky feeling and helped tie in the bold yellow bolster pillows. Furnishings: A retro style chaise longue was placed at the foot of the bed. The bed and other case goods had a contemporary feel, but with a slight retro twist. Accessories: accessories were kept to a minimum. The bedside lamps were glass in a classic mid-century shape, meant to give a nod to the “ship-in-a-bottle” concept. We used some succulents and coastal elements, such as natural coral, as decor for the dresser and nightstands.
